Honor Societies

California Scholarship Federation (CSF) emphasizes high standards of service, scholarship, and citizenship for California high school students. CSF encourages service to the school and community while fostering pride in scholastic achievement. Membership in CSF is by semester in the 10th, 11th, and 12th grades and is based upon academic standing and service to school and/or community. In order to become a member, the student must submit an application each semester the student is eligible. A point system specified in the CSF State By-Laws establishes the membership requirements. To secure eligibility for CSF membership, a student must earn sufficient points from pre-approved course lists. The majority of the required membership points must come from University of California accepted course work. Life Membership (Sealbearer) is achieved by qualifying for chapter membership for four or more semesters in the last three years of high school, and earns the CSF gold seal on diplomas and transcripts. Each year colleges and universities throughout the United States award scholarships to CSF Life (Sealbearer) Members.

French Honor Society – La Société Honoraire de Français is a national organization whose purpose is to recognize high achievement of French students and to promote a continuing interest in Francophone language and cultural studies. Students who have completed French courses through the AP level are eligible to apply to become members of the French Honor Society. Members of the French Honor Society are awarded cords to be worn at graduation and are eligible for various scholarships and national awards.

The International Thespian Honor Society recognizes meritorious work done in high school theatre. Thespians must have a minimum of 600 hours of theatre work, complete 2 annual thespian service projects, and maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA in order to wear the Thespian cord at graduation.

The National Honor Society (NHS), established in 1921, is a recognition program for high school students who show achievement in scholarship, leadership, service, and character. Students are selected for membership by a five member Faculty Council. Candidates must meet the chapter's requirement for scholarship, service, leadership and character in order to be selected for membership. Continued participation in service projects is required to retain membership. Members must also maintain a 3.5 GPA.

The National Honor Society of Sports Medicine creates enthusiasm for scholarship in the area of Sports Medicine and other fields directly related to sports medicine, to stimulate a desire to render service in the community, to promote leadership, and to assist in the development of character in high school students. Students are required to have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 and a Sports Medicine GPA of 3.5. They must have passed both Sports Medicine I and II with at least a B+ average and be accepted into the athletic training program. Graduating seniors may be awarded service, scholarship, and leadership pins as well as a cord if they are members in good standing.

The Science National Honors Society is open to those seniors who have achieved a GPA of 3.9 or higher and have been enrolled in either honors or AP classes in biology, chemistry, and physics. These students will be the future scientists and engineers of tomorrow ensuring that American research and scientific exploration will continue to excel. The Society pledges to encourage and recognize scientific and intellectual thought, advance students’ knowledge of science, communicate with scientific communities, encourage other students in their pursuit of science, and be dedicated to the advancement of science for the benefit of all humankind. Selected students who have been inducted into the Society will have the honor of being awarded cords that may be worn at graduation.

The Spanish Honor Society – Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica, El Greco Chapter is a national organization whose purpose is to recognize high achievement of Spanish students and to promote a continuing interest in Hispanic language and cultural studies. Students who have completed Spanish courses through the AP level are eligible to apply to become members of the Spanish Honor Society. Members of the Spanish Honor Society are awarded cords to be worn at graduation and are eligible for various scholarships and national awards.

The Tri-M Music Honor Society is an international honor program dedicated to the recognition of exceptional students who meet the music, academic, leadership, and character criteria. Tri-M is a program of MENC, the National Association for Music Education. To qualify for membership, students must be enrolled in an RHS instrumental or vocal music class, maintain an overall GPA of 2.0 or higher, maintain a 3.0 or above in an instrumental or vocal music class, and acquire 30 Tri-M points based on criteria as outlined in the Tri-M by-laws. To qualify to wear the Tri-M honor cord at graduation, a student must be a Tri-M member in good standing, have a 3.0 overall GPA and a GPA of 3.8 or better for the instrumental or vocal music classes.
