Rosary Academy summer school offers remediation, advancement, and enrichment courses in two sessions.

Session 1 remediates fall classes (1^st semester) and Session 2 remediates spring classes (2^nd semester). Registration is now open. Session 1 registration closes June 1. Session 2 registration closes June 22

Rosary Academy summer school classes are open to both girls and boys.

Academic Remediation is required for CURRENT students who have received a failing grade in a class.
Advancement Opportunities are for CURRENT and INCOMING students.
Freshman Prep is for INCOMING FRESHMEN who are looking to strengthen their Language Arts, Algebra, and Executive Functioning Skills prior to beginning their freshman year.
High School Readiness is for RISING 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th grade students and is intended to bridge the gaps in learning and are designed to help with the transition from middle school to high school.

Academic Remediation

Current students are required to remediate all failing grades in order to graduate. Students who have received a "D" are encouraged to remediate this grade. Students are only permitted to remediate "D" and "F" grades.

Students who have multiple grades that need to be remediated per session should consult their counselor to discuss remediation options.

Note that all science remediation (1^st or 2^nd semester grades) must be remediated in the first session of summer school (June 10-June 27)

Social Studies (9:00am), or World Language (10:00am): Monday, July 8

Math (8:00am), English (9:00 am), or Religion (10:00am): Tuesday, July 9

Orientation is mandatory.

Course Description

Remediation classes meet twice a week for 2 hours. Approximately 1 week of material is covered each day during Summer School. Students should expect to spend approximately 4 hours each day, if not more, on the course material to keep up.

Please note that our ability to run a course is subject to enrollment levels, and final enrollment is typically not confirmed until the week before Summer School begins. Any registration fees for courses that do not end up running will be refunded.

Book Information

Do not return your tablet if you are remediating. If you are remediating a class that uses an eBook, your credentials will still allow you access to the resource during summer school. All other materials will be supplied by the teacher. See your counselors if you need more information.

Advancement Courses

Rosary Academy offers courses designed to advance in the summer to reach a higher-level course during the school year.

Example path: Freshman Year Honors Algebra I, Sophomore Year Algebra II, Summer after Sophomore year Geometry, Junior Honors Pre-Calculus, Senior AP Calculus AB. Teacher and counselor approval are required to enroll. Summer classes are not part of the 7 semester GPA for Valedictorian and salutatorian decision.

Honors Geometry

Prerequisite: B or higher in Honors Algebra II

This course replicates the content of Geometry, but concepts are studied in greater depth at an accelerated pace, with a greater emphasis on geometric proofs, triangle trigonometry and constructions. Reflections and other transformations will be studied. UC Approved. MUST TAKE BOTH SESSIONS.

Fitness

This course is open to Rosary Academy students and incoming freshmen who are not participating in an after-school sport to complete their P.E. graduation requirement. This class involves two different types of fitness activities. The sessions will alternate between walking and interval training. STEP will include walking for fitness usually 3 ½ to 5 miles per hour. The walking will be at a brisk pace in order to get a cardiovascular endurance benefit. HIIT stands for High Intensity Interval Training. HIIT workouts generally combine short bursts of high intensity exercise with periods of rest or lower-intensity exercise. The class is designed to introduce the student to activities that can help increase metabolism, improve oxygen consumption, gain strength, reduce heart rate, positively affect blood pressure, and sugar.

Health & Wellness

This course provides students with an overview of wellness that includes mental wellness and stress management. In addition, the key components of physical fitness will be introduced both through physical activities and classroom academics. The American Red Cross Standard First Aid Certification with CPR and AED training will be included as well as substance abuse and body systems. This course is a graduation requirement. MUST TAKE BOTH SESSIONS.

High School Readiness

Open to rising 6th, 7th, 8^th, and 9^th grade students.

The courses run Monday-Thursday. Daily attendance is required over the 3-week session.

These courses are intended to bridge the gaps in learning and are designed to help with the transition to high school giving students a greater foundation for future courses. The teacher will assess each student and provide the necessary tools to navigate high school curriculum in the subjects of Math and English. A learning strategies component is also included to improve upon the executive functioning skills necessary for success. Students will also be prepared to use Microsoft products such as OneNote, Excel, PowerPoint and Word. MS Outlook with email and calendar applications are also discussed. Grade will not appear on transcripts however a passing grade is required upon completion. Classes meet for approximately 90 minutes per day with three sections of each course offered. All course materials will be provided.

Freshman Prep

Open to incoming 9^th grade students.

The class will preview actual 9th-grade curriculum taken at Rosary Academy. The Math class covers the first chapter of the book. The Language arts class will cover the summer reading and techniques required to be an effective writer. The learning strategies class is designed to improve executive functioning skills necessary for success and how to manage the schedule of a busy high school student. Grade will not appear on transcripts however a passing grade is required upon completion. Classes meet for approximately 90 minutes per day with three sections of each course offered. All course materials will be provided.

Summer School Policies

Conduct

Rosary Academy students are expected to conduct themselves appropriately at all times. Respect for teachers and peers, cooperation with all school personnel, and a positive attitude are the qualities of a Rosary Academy student. Conduct codes will be enforced as outlined in the Rosary Academy Parent-Student Handbook. Failure to uphold conduct codes will result in disciplinary actions as outlined in the Rosary Academy Parent-Student Handbook.

Class Attendance & Tardies

Face-to-face meeting time is minimal; therefore it is very important that you are in attendance and on time when face-to-face meetings are called. This means that should you miss a scheduled meeting day during summer school you must speak with your instructor immediately to arrange for a make-up. Approximately 1 week of material is covered each day during summer school. Summer school online courses are very intensive courses. You will need to spend approximately 4 hours a day, if not more, on the course to keep up. The maximum amount of absences is 3 in a semester

Summer School Dress Code

Guidelines for Summer School Dress

Clothing which expresses alcohol, sex, sexual orientation, racial and/or drug motifs is not permitted. Half-shirts, tank-tops, spaghetti-strap sun dresses, miniskirts, tube-tops, bare midriffs and backs, oversized and baggy clothing, hats, bare feet, and sleeveless tee-shirts are not permitted. Shorts must have at least a six-inch inseam. At no time may sweat suits be worn. Socks and shoes must be worn according to the uniform dress code regulations. Students who go beyond the school’s idea of appropriate dress will be suspended/denied entry and sent home to change clothes.

Clothing must NOT be baggy, oversized, or torn, and must be void of inappropriate graphic designs.
Students may wear walking shorts at appropriate length or long pants
Students may wear jean pants as long as they are in good condition (no holes, rips, tears or cutoffs)
Tennis shoes/sneakers/athletic shoes must be closed heel and toe (no platform shore, sandals or flip flops allowed
Hair must be neat and clean, Extreme or faddish styles/colors are not permitted
The following items may NOT be worn:
No flip flops or sandals
No short shorts
No low rider pants
No pajamas
No sweats
No Spaghetti strap tops
