Rosary chooses Girls State representative

Since 1940, high schools throughout California have sent outstanding juniors to represent their schools at a summer program called Girls State.  This week-long experience is an opportunity for students to learn first-hand about the structure and function of state and local government by forming and administering city, county, and state governments.

Rosary has once again been invited to participate in this prestigious program.  Our faculty were asked to nominate five juniors based on their leadership, scholarship, character, honesty, cooperativeness, and interest in government and current events.  The five nominees are:  Sandra Boutros, Ronni Hayden, Katherine Lahr, Claire Sirna, and Kate Wilson.  These five outstanding candidates were interviewed by representatives from the American Legion Auxiliary, the organization that sponsors Girls State, and also by Kailey Goerlitz, Rosary’s 2014 delegate.  From the five candidates, the interviewers selected a delegate as well as an alternate who will attend if for any reason the assigned delegate is unable to attend.

We congratulate all the candidates for it is truly an honor to receive a nomination.  We are pleased to announce that our alternate is Katherine Lahr and Rosary’s delegate for California Girls State 2015 is Claire Sirna.
We are most grateful to Tom and Kathie Hernandez, parents of Kristina (RHS ’99) who initially sponsored the Rosary delegate, and to the American Legion Auxiliary who very generously sponsors our delegate’s attendance at Girls State.
