The Royal hoops team defeated Flintridge Sacred Heart in the CIF quarterfinals behind a gritty performance from junior Camille Lira. Lira, who has been battling the flu, uncharacteristically didn't start the game. The Royals held a 25-22 lead at halftime, but Lira took over the second half, scoring 16 points and helping the Royals pull away to a 53-40 victory. Nikki Miller (16 points, 13 rebounds) and Becky Obinma (14 points, 18 rebounds) dominated the boards with rebounds and put-backs, and Lira owned the free throw line, going 8 for 11 -- most in the fourth quarter. The second-seeded Royals will take on third seed St. Paul on the road at 7pm Saturday. A victory will put the Royals in their first CIF finals since 2000.
