Senior Laurel Kessler was recently invited to speak at the American Legion Auxiliary (unit 714 – Los Alamitos) regarding her experience this past July at Girls State. During the evening, she was awarded an ALA Girls State medal, and a congressional certificate. In her remarks, Laurel commented that girls from other (co-ed) schools who also attended Girls State referred to their week together as forming a “bond of sisterhood.” Laurel said she felt pretty lucky, because she already has a sisterhood every day at Rosary.
Congratulations Laurel! We are proud of you!
American Legion Auxiliary Girls State is a nonpartisan program that teaches young women responsible citizenship and love for God and Country. Since the inception of the Girls State program in 1937, nearly one million young people have had the opportunity to learn first-hand how their state and local government works.
