After taking a decisive lead and holding on to it for almost the entire game, the Royals found that their opponent in the CIF Quarter-finals, the Wildcats of Twenty-nine Palms, were not going down without a fight. Staging a fourth quarter comeback, the Wildcats brought the score to within three and then put a three pointer through the net with no time left on the clock. The game went into overtime (4 minutes) and was once again a close battle. With less than a minute to go, the Royals were up by one. Twenty-nine Palms tied the game at 74 each, were fouled and made the free throw going ahead by one with 6 seconds left in play. Freshman Kate Goostrey drove her way down the court and just as the buzzer was about to sound, put her final shot neatly into the basket. Royals win! Final score 76-75.
Camille Lira was the high scorer for the Royals with 24, Kate Goostrey with 20, Ali Iannone 14, Becky Obinma 13, Allison Lou 3, and Bryn Boznanski scored 2.
Winning this fierce battle takes the Royals to the semi-finals against Trinity League rival JSerra. The Lions will host a 7:00 p.m. game at JSerra. Let's pack the stands with Royal fans!
