On Monday, October 9, golf coach Steve Hiskey was one of several Orange County high school coaches to be recognized by the OC Athletic Directors Association as a “Coach of Character.” The focus of the evening was on winning – not games or matches, but life. Coach Hiskey has been a mainstay of the Orange County and CIF Southern Section coaching ranks for more than four decades. He knew most of the people at the ceremony and was greeted warmly by all, including CIF-SS Commissioner Rob Wigod. Steve began at Lynwood HS in 1970; worked at Brea-Olinda for 33 years as athletic director, baseball coach, and girls golf coach; and then transitioned to Rosary in “retirement,” where he’s been for seven years. Fellow coach and AD Tom Tice said of Steve at the ceremony: “Rosary has many coaches – from brand new to veterans of a couple decades – but all of them look to Steve Hiskey as a shining star of wisdom and experience to guide our athletic department.” Congratulations and thank you, Coach Hiskey, for guiding our golf program with character and honor.
