Laura Hamann '14
Associate Head Coach
Coach Laura Hamann returns to Rosary for a second year to help coach track and field after graduating in 2014. While at Rosary, she competed in the long jump and triple jump and was the 2014 Trinity League Champion in the long jump. She broke both school records and was named the Trinity League Field Event MVP in 2014. She was also a 4-year Varsity volleyball player and was named Multi-Sport Athlete of the Year in 2013. After Rosary, she went on to attend Cal State Fullerton on a track and field scholarship where she graduated this past May with a degree in Business Finance. During her college indoor and outdoor track career, Laura became the Big West Conference Triple Jump Champion in 2017, the first for CSUF since 2001. She also broke the Indoor Triple Jump School Record in 2018 and placed 3rd at her last Big West Conference Championships. She was also named All-Conference in 2017 and 2018. Coach Laura also just returned from Brazil this past July after competing for team USA in the 1st FISU America games. Currently, Coach Laura is pursuing a career in Residential Real Estate. She is very excited to be helping the young women of Rosary succeed on and off the track!
Jen (Burley) Murphy was a four-year varsity runner for Rosary’s cross country and track teams from 1998-2002. She was named Freshman Athlete of the Year and was a Scholar Athlete all four years at Rosary.
Murphy ran cross country and track for the University of California, Santa Barbara, and competed at the national level in triathlon. In 2005, Murphy was assistant coach for the San Marcos Division I boys’ and girls’ cross country teams. In 2011-2012, Murphy assisted Coach Richard Gibbs as Servite High School’s distance track coach and cross country coach. This is Coach Murphy’s fourth cross country season and fifth track season at Rosary. Murphy has a Master’s degree in English from the University of California, Irvine.
Coach Zapata hurdled for all four of his years at Servite High School. He showed leadership qualities that made him a team leader on the track, where he inspired his other teammates to perform at a high level of competition. He hopes to use these same leadership skills to do the same for Rosary’s athletes. He is currently attending Fullerton Junior College with a major in Kinesiology.
Assistant Coach - Jumps
This is Coach Onyx’s 1st year Assisting with Jumps at Rosary Academy. She graduated from Long Beach Polytechnic in 2015, where she was all league in both the long jump and the triple jump. She was also a CIF-SS finalist in long and triple jump. After high school, she received an athletic scholarship to Cal State Fullerton to continue her track career. She is currently in her last year competing in both long jump and triple jump at CSUF and will graduate with a degree in Information Systems and a minor in Political Science this May.
Jen Lutfi ran cross country and track for the Royals all four years. She served as varsity cross country captain her senior year, and ran the 800 meter, 1600 meter, and 3200 meter races in track. Jen was a scholar athlete all four years, and was recognized by the OC Catholic in an athlete profile her senior year.
After graduating from Rosary in 2017, she continued her education at California State University, Fullerton. Jen is currently a sophomore Communicative Disorders major at CSUF.
