Nurse Updates
August 29, 2022
On Monday, August 29, your daughter will be receiving 2 at-home COVID-19 antigen tests. These were given to Rosary Academy from the California Department of Public Health for families to use at home. Please use them as you need. You may contact our office at any time if you need additional tests for your family. Please note that the expiration dates of these tests are listed as 8/2022. This expiration date has been extended per the manufacturer. You may view here.
We are excited to host Albertson’s Pharmacy on Rosary’s campus for a flu and COVID-19 vaccine clinic on Monday, October 3 from 1:30-3:30pm in the Assembly Hall. This is completely optional and intended to provide a convenient service to those interested in receiving either vaccine. Most insurance companies cover the cost of flu shots. If you register early, Albertson’s Pharmacy can run a claim to see if your daughter’s would be covered. We would be able to contact you ahead of time to let you know if it is not. There is no charge for COVID-19 shots with or without insurance. Click here for more information.
The pharmacists will be administering the vaccines. They can provide:
- Flu quad (age 64 and younger) and Flu HD (for age 65+)
- They will also be offering 1st, 2nd dose, 1st booster and 2nd booster (currently for age 50+) COVID-19 shots.
- Flowflex At-Home Covid Test Kit
Documents required:
Parents, please complete the vaccine consent form prior to the clinic, and send the completed, printed vaccine consent form with your daughter on Monday, October 3. (Universal Informed Consent for Immunization here)
- There is a print button on the bottom once you have completed the online form
- Copy of insurance card
- COVID vaccine card if requesting COVID booster shot

From the Nurses and Director of Social and Emotional Learning:
Continuing the theme of Mental Health Awareness for the month of May, we would like to provide you with additional resources.
Earlier this school year, the American Academy of Pediatrics, American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Children’s Hospital Association has declared a national state of emergency in child and adolescent mental health. According to the CDC (Centers for Disease Control), “Among high school students in 2019, more than 1 in 3 (36.7%) reported feeling sad or hopeless, and nearly 1 in 5 (18.8%) seriously considered attempting suicide.”
Mental Health America has a free, quick, online tool to help identify if you are experiencing a mental health condition. There are approximately 10 quizzes covering topics such as depression and anxiety, as well as a parent quiz regarding your child’s mental health, and provides results with suggestions for follow-up, if needed. Visit mhascreening.org for more information. We encourage our students to discuss these screenings with their parents or trusted adult before and after taking a screening.
Recently the following was posted on the bulletin board outside the Nurses Office:
10 Tools to Improve Your Mental Health
1. Connect with others. For example: make plans to meet a friend for ice cream or coffee, or volunteer!
2. Stay Positive! For example: Keep a gratitude journal or note on your phone. Every day, write down 5 things you’re for which you’re thankful (It can be as simple as being thankful for the sunshine).
3. Get physically active! For example: take the dog for a walk or have a 1-minute dance party!
4. Help Others. For example: smile at a student or neighbor you don’t know or call and friend and see how she’s doing.
5. Get enough sleep! For example: set a regular bedtime and take a hot shower before you go to sleep.
6. Create Joy and Satisfaction. For example: watch or listen to a comedy or put together a collection of photos that make you smile.
7. Eat Well! For example: Don’t skip meals and drink plenty of water. Eat a well-balanced diet with a healthy supply of carbs, fats and proteins.
8. Take care of your spirit! For example: Pray or focus on God’s blessings in your life.
9. Process your feelings to better deal with hard times. For example: Write about what’s bothering you/your problems and what the possible solutions are.
10. Ask for help from a trusted adult such as a parent, aunt/uncle, or an adult at school like your counselor or the nurse and/or seek professional help if you need it. For example: If you or someone you know is feeling especially bad or suicidal, call: 1-800-273-TALK (8255) or 9-1-1 immediately.
